Generally speaking, I am very lucky with my skin. In fact, I’ve never really suffered from any skin conditions apart from a few unusual breakouts when I stopped using the pill for example or the days spent wearing a face mask 24H/7D.
However, my skin is super reactive to the environment I am in. Depending on my diet, the season, and even my overall sense of wellbeing, my skin is up and down like a rollercoaster. When I’m on holiday, my skin gets very dehydrated and super pigmented, and when I eat chocolate, I swear the next day I’ll have a mini breakout on my chin. No, that doesn’t stop me eating it (of course), but it does give you a clearer idea of how easily triggered it can be.
Therefore, I wasn’t surprised to see my skin acting like a rollercoaster during my pregnancy. In the first couple of months, I suffered from morning sickness. Even though I tried to keep my pregnancy a secret till the three-month mark, I think it was written on my face that something was definitely going on! I remember Megan asking me a few times if I was sick or something.
In my second trimester, my skin was amazing and I experienced that pregnancy glow throughout the summer. However, by my third trimester, my skin had completely changed. I suffered from big, deep, unusual breakouts on my chin. The skincare regime that was once working like magic ended up upsetting my skin even more. I switched a couple of products but nothing really worked! I booked a consultation with Megs (yes, even skin experts need some objective advice sometimes) and she recommended a few products and ingredients that got my skin glowing again.
This was (and still is) the structure of my skincare routine for pregnancy and beyond...
MORNING ☀️
Neostrata Mandelic Clarifying Cleanser
I like that this cleanser has a gel consistency that doesn’t foam but it is quite strong so I switch it from time to time with the Nescenc Cleansing Gel which is gentler.

Allies of Skin Multi Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration Serum
As my skin was quite dehydrated during my pregnancy I loved this antioxidant serum as it hydrates but also protects the skin in a very light formulation.

SkinCeuticals Phloretin Serum
As recommended by Megan, I added this on top. I noticed that my skin was more pigmented than usual, especially after a breakout and this serum tackled those stubborn post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Kat Burki Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream
Post-pregnancy my skin became super dry due to the weather and also hormonal fluctuations (I told you I experienced everything!) so this moisturiser was amazing to replenish my skin without feeling heavy or greasy.

Ultra Violette Queen Screen Luminising Sun Serum SPF50
This SPF contains both mineral and chemical sunscreen. I introduced it in wintertime but I’m still using it. I love how soft and velvety it feels on the skin, nothing like traditional sunscreen.

NIGHT 🌙
Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser
This balm cleanser is great to remove all impurities, make-up and sunscreen, but I have to say that if I’m not using the clarifying cleanser afterwards, it can feel greasy on my skin.

Neostrata Mandelic Clarifying Cleanser
I love this cleanser for the night time too!

Paula’s Choice Azelaic Booster
If there’s one product that Megan recommended to me that completely changed my skin this is the one. It also contains BHAs which are not the ideal ingredient to have when pregnant or breastfeeding but are safe to use in small quantities. This was a game-changer in preventing unusual breakouts and keeping my skin calm.

Vichy Mineral 89 Hydrating Serum
I just love this hydrating serum and how it feels on my skin. I also use it post-workout to seal in moisture and prep my skin before applying a moisturiser.

Augustinus Bader The Cream
This moisturiser has been such a game-changer for me too. I love it as it contains a cocktail of powerful ingredients all in one formulation. It does contain a little bit of retinol so please check with your GP before using it (I did!).

One final note… This skincare regime was designed for me by Lion/ne Skin Mentor and that’s why it works so well. I can’t emphasise enough the importance of understanding your skin through an expert’s eye before buying any skincare products. It’s time to make sure you are using the right ingredients no matter what stage you are in your life.
