Type: Ingredient

Definition: It is an ester form of vitamin A that belongs to the retinoid family. Basically retinyl palmitate works on the skin by being hydrolysed into retinol that is delivered into the skin cells. This is a type of retinoid used more for its protective properties rather than stimulating ones as it contains a sun protection of 20 SPF.

Let's Have a Look

Benefits

  • Prevents sunburn
  • Prevents skin redness,
  • Prevents free radical formation

Danger

  • The protection against UV light is a little bit confusing.
  • Apparently, it can protect from UVB light but can cause DNA damage when exposed to UVA.

Hint

Retinol is also a very famous member of the family, but it's like Prince William, two steps away from the throne. Retinyl palmitate will then be little Prince George, quite far (3 steps) away from the throne.
